"For the past four years I had purchased a SkeeterVac but no matter what I did, the SkeeterVac did not work the following season. This year I purchased the Premier XC because I was tired of replacing the SkeeterVac and the requisite propane. Last Saturday morning I was laying sod in my yard. Even with a repellant applied, I had 10 or more mosquitoes around me. I saw the FedEx guy bring the XC so I decided to take a break and get the unit set up. I read everything fairly quickly but did notice the statement that I should not expect instant results. I got everything assembled and decided to go with the wet method. I used 3 or 4 drops of Dawn and 3 or 4 teaspoons of some juice. I live on a lake and I set up the unit under a deck that I built. The deck is on a slope that puts the ground 8-12 feet off the ground. I turned the unit on and went back to laying sod. Get this, I only had 1 mosquito nag me. From 10 or more to 1 with the unit first being turned on! I did as directed and did not include any of the attractants. My neighbors walked by and wondered why was I not fighting mosquitoes and I told that that I just set up your trap. Even though the instructions say not to expect immediate results, I did indeed get immediate results and I am glad since the mosquito population in South Georgia is really large. I just hope I won't have to replace it annually like the SkeeterVac which by the way was not very effective even when it did operate. Thanks."

"What happened with the Mosquito Magnet [Liberty Plus]? It is a disaster. 3 systems broken in 3 months. Incredible!!!

Every 3 weeks when I changed the propane tank, the green light never was on again and after 20 minutes I had an intermitent red light indicating that the machine was not receiving an adequate amount of propane. I called technical support and they recommended me to restart many times and then change the propane tanks. I changed tanks and nothing happened. After the third Mosquito Magnet and many visits to Home Depot, I decided to get rid of the Magnet, a system that is very good trapping mosquitos, but apparently a technical disaster.

I researched the internet and found many adverse opinions about mosquito magnet and good opinions about your system that honestly appears superior. The ULTRA is working well. And the CO2 lasts 4 months, not 3 weeks as the propane required for the Mosquito Magnet.

"The machine [ULTRA] seems to be eliminating most of them as there are very few bugs annoying us. Anytime I have been close to the machine when it is running, I have noticed there are bugs swarming the machine at the site and when I empty the trap there has been a fair amount of bugs in the container, how many I am not sure, as I am really not into trying to count them. The site of the trap is at the extent of the 60 ft cord from the electrical outlet on our house, which is approximately where the treeline begins on our 2.75 acre lot. The site has worked well for us as it has kept the machine shaded for most part as recommended in the operation manual and at a spot closest to the source of the bugs. We are running the trap at setting #3 from 6am to 9am and then 6pm to 10 pm with the liquid catch container. Obviously, the more bugs, the more the machine is challenged but right now we are quite happy with the results and the bug situation. We also understand that when the bug population does increase the machine will not eliminate completely, but we are fairly confident that it will definitely help decrease the bug population to a level where we can be comfortable outside."

"It’s not very often that we consumers run into a company whose customer service is equal to or better than the product they sell, however in your case you have exceeded any expectations I could have. For your info I have owned a Mosquito Magnet Liberty for 6 or 7 years. It performed quite well the first 2 years then the catch declined although the mosquito population increased. Finally this spring the unit failed. This made me look to other manufacturers and their designs, and I found Mega-Catch. I simply thought your system of using CO2 cylinders a much better approach than burning propane. Any combustion system involves maintenance but Mosquito Magnet doesn’t have any owner serviceable parts. You include comprehensive directions on how to literally service the entire unit. That’s a huge benefit. I live in a heavily wooded area of ponds, brooks and wetland, as well as I live a ½ mile from the ocean so I get every conceivable biting insect New England has to offer. Early this spring with the Mosquito Magnet running I couldn’t go outside after dusk. Now with the Mega Catch Ultra our yard is our own again. I would suggest anyone considering this product to seriously look at the Ultra. The CO2 is proven (in my backyard) to attract mosquitoes, however even this past week without the use of CO2 I still caught a significant number of mosquitoes, horse flies, and noseeums. "In all the years of owning the systems, the Mega-Catch [ULTRA] has always out-performed the Mosquito Magnet by at least 5-to-1 in catching mosquitoes and other pests. I would say that number is higher, but nobody would believe me. Just the other day, my wife came back from a friends house in our neighborhood. She counted 14 mosquito bites on her legs alone. Her exact words were "I felt like I was being eaten alive". This never happens at our home, and we have a mosquito breeding creek that runs through our yard! Now, I know no system is fool-proof and being bitten on occasion is to be expected; fortunately for us, we don't have any evidence that shows this to be true.

Regarding the Mosquito Magnet, I've actually owned two of them. Their biggest achilles heel is in their reliability. They *may* work for an entire season and that is all. You'll be fighting to get it to run reliably. I love the fact that the Mega-Catch is serviceable, so I'll always be able to fix it should something happen. That can't be said about the Mosquito Magnet. It has since been retired.

"Thank you again for what you did for me. I'm really looking forward to having the ALPHA sitting close to the door again. This summer the mosquitoes have been really bad with all the rain we're having and the high humidity. I can answer some of your questions, but I really don't know what kind of mosquitoes we have around here. It seems like the same kind we have always had. I never looked inside the bag to have a good look at them. Just thankful they were in the bag rather then in the house.

We usually run the trap between the the hours of 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. unless it's rainning. The mosquitoes usually don't bother us during the day unless it is gray and humid, then we leave it on. Our patio is just off the sliding doors, and our patio table is about 5 feet from the the doors, and that's where we have the trap standing, and our woods is about 30 feet from the table.

"We live facing a public park/woods, and about 100 feet or more into the woods is a swamp (unseen). We bought the house in March 2005. That was the only year when, part of the time, we could sit on the deck that faces the woods.

We bought the Mega Catch machines [PREMIER] about 2 1/2 years ago. The first year, we put them out too late. The next year, We put them out early and the machines were never disconnected or maintained in any way for the next year and a half.

Finally this past week I went down and got both machines (it's down in a wooded valley which, in the past, was over run by mosquitoes).

One machine had been unplugged -- perhaps by a passerby. The other was still going strong, 24 hours a day.

The unplugged one had 1 inch of bugs and the other one was full, even though the skirts had blown off of both machines.

The machine that was still plugged in and working is, to me, the whole reason that this year, for the first time, we've been able to sit on our deck and enjoy the woods, even on hot, humid August days! ! !

I plan to just leave them down there till next year -- they seem to do the job, even with little or no bait! I'm trying to tell everybody in our neighborhood, because the rest of them are still having problems!"

"I own two Premiers. I've used the wet catch method + Octenol with the traps. I had trouble attracting more moths than anything else at first so took out the UV bulbs. Tried the net, then the wet catch method which seemed to work better. I'm going to try the net again this summer for a while as I found I kept forgetting to refill the container with liquid.

In the past I had used two Mosquito Magnets and actually still have one model that still functions well, although using the propane tank is a pain and gets expensive. We live on a property that is 30 acres so I'll use whatever I have. When the Liberty dies I'll get another Mega-Catch. The more expensive Magnet died after two years of use which was very upsetting, as it was quite expensive.

"I have experimented with the [ALPHA] unit. I have put it in low places on a shelf, and
on a chair. I found it most effective about 5 feet up in the air, with no obstructions around. I'm in Tampa, and summers are rough. Mosquitoes would bite me while I sleep. It's hard to sleep, knowing that when I get up, I may have a bite here or there, or multiple bites. The octenol lures, increase the effectiveness 300 - 400 percent. My Alpha trap gets most of them, but I am seriously considering getting another Alpha unit for my bedroom.

"We've lived in South Florida for the past 3 years in a relatively rural area with many canals. Until this summer our mosquito concentration was what I would consider reasonable and you could easily spend time outdoors without being swarmed upon. However this summer, due to an above average rainy season, our mosquito problem became unbearable to the extent that as soon as you walked outside anywhere from 3-5 mosquitoess would be on you within a few seconds. With an 18 month old daughter who is wanting to play more and more outside, we decided it was time to try and do something about our mosquito infestation. After researching the various options on the market, we decided to go with the Mega-Catch Ultra for a few reasons. First, almost all of the reviews I saw were positive compared to other brands and models on the market. Second, I liked the idea of actually using direct CO2 rather then having to burn propane to produce it like some models. Although we were ready to give the Mega-Catch Ultra a try, I still had some reservations about the effectiveness of any system like this given our environment and the size of my property. We live on 1.3 acres and since the advertised effective range was 1.5 acres, I was suspect on whether this system would be effective for my entire property.

We setup the system with the optional CO2 tank along with the "wet" catch can solution without the Octenol strips (per recommendations in the manual) about 2 weeks ago and placed it in the back left corner of our property about 40 feet behind our guest house. The manual said to not to expect significant results for 6-8 weeks but in our case it took less then 2. We change the catch can solution every other day and have been running it on full auto since we set it up.

To sum it up, this thing has worked beyond my wildest expectations and I would recommend anyone with a significant mosquito problem to invest in it. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and while the price may be a little steep for most, I can assure you it is worth every penny."

"We finally accomplished our life-long dream and moved from California to Big Pine Key,Florida 4 years ago. We live in an area surrounded by sea and wetlands. The only downside is that on our island the mosquitoes and no-see-ums are really a problem, especially in the summertime.

Someone told us to buy a Mosquito Magnet, so we chose the one in our price range, the unit which used a butane tank. The thing did OK for the first 3 months and caught it’s share of mosquitos, but then mechanically failed, It would not start up. We called Mosquito Magnet and the only solution was to pack it all up and send it into them for warranty service. It took 30 days for the return. We did that and got a unit back that failed again in 30 days. We sent that one back and they sent us a factory refurbished one, which did not work out of the box. We went through this one more time and they finally sent us a new one in the store box which we promptly returned to the store for a credit. The customer service was very poor, long waits for call backs etc.

After a couple of weeks of internet searching, we ordered our Mega Catch Ultra. By then our mosquito problem was so bad that we could barely go outside. The catch rate was unbelievable, I would empty a thick mosquito-soup out of the wet catch container every couple of days. What is most impressive, is that when you need to do any service or maintenance, it is very easy to take the unit apart and work on it and the parts are readily available by mail order and arrive in a timely fashion. I have had very little trouble with the unit and when I have, I have received excellent service from Mega-Catch and have been able to have it up and running in a couple of days. I am not mechanically inclined and it is a piece of cake to work on. We have had our Mega Catch for 3 years and have had to change the bulb a couple of times and change the gas cylinders and it has worked well. We recently had trouble with the timer because of exposure to heavy rain storms etc. I called customer service and within hours had the problem resolved. This is some of the best service I have ever experienced. I would definitely recommend the Mega Catch to anyone, basically because it works, the customer service is excellent and it is so easy to work on completely eliminating the need to pack it up and send it in for repair."

You are correct in your assumption that the “H-Man” is very like our ALPHA trap. In fact it is an illegal copy which breaches our patent registration in Canada. Some of the “H-Man” marketing literature including ALPHA test reports, have even been taken directly off our website. We understand that the H-Man isn’t registered with the appropriate environmental protection authorities in Canada or the USA. It also runs directly off 120 Volt mains power which is potentially very dangerous in an outdoor setting. All Mega-Catch traps, including the ALPHA, run off a safe low voltage of 12 Volts supplied via a transformer. The ALPHA trap will be available for sale in Canada in 2009 so be sure to keep an eye on our website.

I have a MegaCatch Ultra and recommend it without reservation. I live in New England on a lakefront piece of property. My home is 50 feet from the water and I have had a significant problem with mosquitoes. In the spring of 2007, after much on line research I purchased a MegaCatch Ultra with most, if not all of the options. I did this in spite of my reservation that the company that manufactured the unit was in New Zealand and the marketing firm was located in Denver CO. I took a significant financial “gamble” and won.

The Ultra has essentially eliminated the problem. While nothing can be 100% effective, however, my family and I can be down by the water at dusk without having to use insect repellants. I use 2 lures per month and 2 tanks of CO2 per season and keep the unit on #2 setting for 12 hours nightly. I change the water every week and add the coke and dish detergent to the water.

I was literally amazed that when I need service or had a question that the Denver people could not answer (everyone that I have spoke to in Denver has been knowledgeable, polite and very helpful) I get a phone call usually with in hours (weekends included) from New Zealand.

"First of all I would like to compliment the product....it works EXCELLENT!!!!! I would empty the catch container every 4 to 5 days and it was FULL of those nasty critters.

The trap was placed in between the house and the backyard. There are approx. 8 to 9 pine trees that the neighbor has that I am sure attract the bugs. "Our back yard is mosquito heaven. We have a large back yard with over 20, twenty year old (some nearly 30 years old), trees shading it plus we also have a small pond (about 6 foot by 4 foot in size near the back fence which is also surround by bamboo and small bushes). All of the trees now tower well over the house and our back yard is totally shaded.

After receiving the Premier and reading the instructions I decided to use the wet catch method with the Octenol strip. I followed [the] instructions to the tee, simply using water, soap and coke as the soup for the container.

At first I set it up behind the pond to see if I could get any hits. The first time I pulled the trap to check it, I had several hundred dead mosquito's in it. Like a cat with his dead rat I immediately went in to show it to my wife. She named our mega catch "Killer."

I have since moved it closer to our gathering area on the other side of the pond and it has done well there as well. Our grandson’s play area is nearby and he is also a mosquito magnet and that was the main reason for putting it over there.

We have now gone out in the back yard in the mornings and were able to sit outside and drink our morning coffee and talk without being ravaged by mosquitoes. Last week our daughter and her family came over and we sat out back and were only harassed a little by mosquitoes but nothing like before. Our 18 month old grandson was able to play without a bite.

I have told the guys at work how awesome the trap is, even brought them pics of the water trap full of dead mosquitoes. They are all impressed. Should be. Thanks."

Mega-Catch™ Response:

The door was originally designed to prevent children putting their hands into the trap and injuring their fingers in the fan. Since then we added a fan guard so the door is now a second level of safety. Subject to this safety issue, the traps can be operated without the door in place without any adverse impact on effectiveness.

"I want to take a moment to say thanks for the Premier Mega-Catch. This area of Massachusetts has an abundance of wetlands and mosquitos. When we moved here about 15 years ago I had to wear a head net to protect myself when mowing the lawns. I had a neighbor with a net body suit. It was terrible. I tried spraying the area with a garlic spray - which was not very effective but sure made the area smell good. I guess I was too lazy to get a mosquito magnet because I did not want to refill the propane tank every three weeks. We could not go out to our bird feeders without applying Deep Woods Off. "I live on 2 acres of heavily wooded land and during the mosquito season it is normally extremely unpleasant to try and work outside due to the abundance of mosquitos. I visited a friend who lived in similar surroundings and saw that he had the MegaCatch Ultra set up along a creek that ran through his property. He showed me the unit and explained how it worked and upon removing the wet container I was amazed at the number of dead mosquitos inside. I was there in the late afternoon and found there to be few mosquitos in the yard.

I was impressed and after visiting the MegaCatch website, set about locating a MegaCatch trap[purchased a PREMIER trap]. I set the Premier up the next day in very short order as I had read the manual when I got home. Initially, I set the unit up near the vegetable garden and let it run for 2 consecutive days. I then programmed the unit to run for 4 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening.

After 5 days I decided to change the water in the container and see just how many bugs I had trapped. I was surprised to see that there was almost 1/2 inch of dead mosquitos suspended in the fluid near the bottom and only a few moths on top.
I next decided to move the MegaCatch to the front yard near the drainage ditch. It has been there for 2 days now and I took a quick peak at the catch so far and it looks like it will exceed the catch in the back yard.

It seems that the MegaCatch Premier performs as advertised and if it continues to operate this well, I anticipate purchasing a second unit in order to trap mosquitos in both the front and back yards."

'We purchased several mega catch ultra machines prior to the Australian summer last year, one was for our property at Ingleside in Sydney. 'Thank you for your recent phone call concerning a lack of performance from my Ultra trap. I took your advice and removed the Octenol strip. The difference in performance was immediate and astounding! Now instead of the mosquitoes swarming the outside of the trap but staying out, the reverse is happening. The most recent check had the bag full of mosquitoes (and moths, Junebugs, etc.) I guess the Canadian Mosquitoes just don't like the smell of the strip.

One question: When new varieties of mosquitoes start appearing (particularly those that switch from birds to humans in late July), should I put the strip back in? Those particular Mosquitoes are the nasty ones that carry the West Nile Virus.'

Most backyards will have up to a hundred mosquito species over the course of a year and they all respond slightly differently to the traps stimuli. "It's working fine. There has been a marked reduction in the mosquito population in our backyard. We can sit outside without constant attack. I believe the secret is to move it around on a regular basis to cater for shifting winds and populations that are protected by the buildings etc. The area we live in is some 300 to 400m from a tide effected salt marsh so there is a constant supply of reinforcements that populate all areas around the house, so if they are outside of the CO2 stream or the physical/visual attractants they are not lured to the trap. In our case two traps would be ideal one on either side of the house would provide a complete envelope of protection."

We live in Lafayette, La, which has lots of mosquitoes in normal conditions, but after Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, there has been a CRAZY amount of mosquitoes. This is why I decided to purchase a "mosquito machine." It has greatly reduced the population of mosquitoes in our backyard, and our children are able to play outside again!

I did lots of research before making my purchase. I chose your machine because there is no propane tank to fool with, the price is unbeatable, and tests show that it catches and kills a good amount of mosquitoes.

I was concerned that our 6ft fence around our backyard would inhibit the effectiveness of the mega-catch, but it has not. I am recommending the mega-catch to my parents, who live on the bayou. They paid around $1,000 for the Mosquito Magnet and were pleased with it until it broke after only 6 months---something about the propane coil not lighting?? Anyhow, I'm sure that that the Mega-catch will do the job for them as well!"

"I received the timer, strips, and light bulbs today and changed the timer out in about 20 minutes. I went ahead and changed out the bulb and saved the old one as a spare. The timer appears to be working properly. I am not sure what happened to old timer, the mega catch is pretty sheltered as it sits under the eve of the roof and away from direct rain. In any case we still seem to be pretty free of mosquitoes and other biting insects. We have about a 1/3 acre back yard and with lots of plants. For the first month or so, when I emptied the catch container and refilled, I would say each time, I had hundreds of dead mosquitoes. Slowly the number of mosquitoes caught decreased as we must have broken the breeding cycle and of course noticed no mosquitoes on our patio or around the pool. I think your product does a wonderful job.

"I just want to let you know how amazed I am at the difference between the performance of your Mega-Catch and the American Biophysics Mosquito Magnet. The Mega-Catch is two to three times more efficient at catching mosquitoes than the Mosquito Magnet and cost only about a third as much.

However, the real difference is in the support I received. When I asked American Biophysics for replacement parts and technical help to repair my Mosquito magnets, I was told there was no help, or replacement parts available. My only option was to send the units back to the factory for repair, or to upgrade to the next better model. "Two years ago we moved to Florida and bought a house on a “Preserve.” Although we love most of the animals that live there, it turns out to be a swamp all summer and breeds tons of mosquitoes. Took the device apart and seated the wire firmly. Screws back in, skirt back on and back in service it went. Great first night catch!

"We have had 6 Mega-Catch Mosquito machines since 2002 and another 3 since 2003. We are quite pleased with there service of trapping and killing mosquito's. We have 15 acres in the middle of the woods in Napies, Florida. Before we got these machines, the mosquito population was very high. We wore spray most all spring and summer. Our property is home for a lot of children and we had to do something to keep our kids from being ate up. Especially with West Nile and other disease's carried by mosquito's. The major benefits gained from the Mega-Catch were the savings in time and travel through the use of the programmable timer/clock. The use of gas rather than dry ice is more convenient and also a saving in cost and travel. The timer also performs as a conservation unit for battery power and gas. The unit performed well and to expectations over more than 3 months.

The robustness of the unit deserves comment. The sites selected for trapping were mainly coastal with onshore winds and often wet conditions. Sheep and cattle were usually in the same area and the unit showed no signs of damage from them. There were no breakages or breakdowns during surveillance – even in a flood situation that washed the battery connection away the only adjustment was to reconnect the crocodile clip to the battery. Another unit operated without fault after falling from a traveling vehicle.
