"I have had two mosquito magnets in the past 5 years. They have a pretty high monthly operating rate and they are a pain to keep in service. For the past 2 years I've been looking for something that was cheaper to run per month and something that I could fix myself if there was a problem. Based on the reviews and research I found I decided to TRY the Ultra. I was just hoping this thing was half as good as advertised. The mosquito magnet left me with seriously low expectations.
I put the Ultra within about 20 yards of the mosquito magnet. I was going to have them duel it out. When I checked the Ultra after the first night I was simply shocked. "I want to take a moment to say thanks for the Premier Mega-Catch. This area of Massachusetts has an abundance of wetlands and mosquitos. When we moved here about 15 years ago I had to wear a head net to protect myself when mowing the lawns. I had a neighbor with a net body suit. It was terrible. I tried spraying the area with a garlic spray - which was not very effective but sure made the area smell good. I guess I was too lazy to get a mosquito magnet because I did not want to refill the propane tank every three weeks. We could not go out to our bird feeders without applying Deep Woods Off. "I Have had 3 of the Mega-Catch Ultra bug catchers for about 4 years now. Other people I know with expensive brands of mosquito traps tell me that most are much too expensive to maintain. Most people do not keep their own devices very clean and of course that adds to their problems. Besides mosquitoes, large enough to dress for luch, we have 2 flies that bite like crazy. One called a deer fly and a black fly that looks like a common house fly until it bites you. Using the pan [catch container] with a mixture of water, Coke Cola, dish soap and a touch of cane sugar, attracts all of these annoying insects quite well. Adding the lure bait [Octenol Fragrance Strip] and CO2 makes it one of the best I have ever seen."

"I live on 2 acres of heavily wooded land and during the mosquito season it is normally extremely unpleasant to try and work outside due to the abundance of mosquitos. I visited a friend who lived in similar surroundings and saw that he had the MegaCatch Ultra set up along a creek that ran through his property. He showed me the unit and explained how it worked and upon removing the wet container I was amazed at the number of dead mosquitos inside. I was there in the late afternoon and found there to be few mosquitos in the yard.
I was impressed and after visiting the MegaCatch website, set about locating a MegaCatch trap[purchased a PREMIER trap]. I set the Premier up the next day in very short order as I had read the manual when I got home. Initially, I set the unit up near the vegetable garden and let it run for 2 consecutive days. I then programmed the unit to run for 4 hours in the morning and 5 hours in the evening. Within a couple of days I could work in the garden without being bothered by mosquitos. After 5 days I decided to change the water in the container and see just how many bugs I had trapped. I was surprised to see that there was almost 1/2 inch of dead mosquitos suspended in the fluid near the bottom and only a few moths on top.
I next decided to move the MegaCatch to the front yard near the drainage ditch. It has been there for 2 days now and I took a quick peak at the catch so far and it looks like it will exceed the catch in the back yard.
It seems that the MegaCatch Premier performs as advertised and if it continues to operate this well, I anticipate purchasing a second unit in order to trap mosquitos in both the front and back yards. I am a satisfied customer who has taken back his property from the invading of mosquitos."

"This will be our third full season using the "Ultra" and I can not begin to tell you what a difference it makes. My wife and I own a historical home in Brooksville, Florida, surrounded by 100 year old oak and camphor trees, in other words, a mosquito haven. "I purchased a Megacatch "Premier" about one year ago. I placed it in my outdoor courtyard that is approximately 25 ft. x 25 ft. and is surrounded by a brick wall. I received the Megacatch and found it very easy to assemble and had it placed strategically in the outer most corner of the courtyard.the Megacatch sits approx. 18 ft. from our patio table where six of us normally sit while entertaining. The Megacatch was remarkable in that none of us were bitten during the summer. It was set on auto and programmed to start at 7:00am in the morning and to shut off at 11:00pm most of the time. " For maximum performance, I had to move the trap around to find that sweet spot. Initially I had the trap in the middle of the backyard, but that was too close to our table which made the mosquitoes attack us instead, as I moved the trap much further away (about 18 ft), underneath a tree and there you go, that was the "sweet spot" for my backyard, no more mosquito attacks again...I almost gave up thinking this trap does not work as advertised, but it does if you find the right combination of attractant and placement."

" I am amazed at the effectivness of my three Alphas and one Premier in dealing with our neighborhood no-seeums. During the warmer period I was catching maybe 300 a night in the premier water catch outside, now maybe 30. After placing one call to a stateside ( U.S.) customer service number, I received a call from New Zealand (I'm assuming that must be headquarters for this company) by a technician within 15 minutes!!! The technician identified the problem and even though the trap was out of warranty, he insisted that it was a problem they wanted to fix and dispatched a replacement part AND some extra service parts for the inconvenience! All within 15 minutes of the initial call with no harassment or the usual run-around.

'We purchased several mega catch ultra machines prior to the Australian summer last year, one was for our property at Ingleside in Sydney.
We are on five acres and it had got to the stage where we could not go outside after the sun went down as we would be bitten by a combination of midges and mosquitoes, my wife is allergic to midge bites so we could never enjoy the summer evenings outside. A friend of mine suggested I buy a mega catch ultra machine which I did, one for home and one for our place on the Central Coast. On the Central Coast you would shoo away the mosquitoes (big brown ones) with one hand and they would land on the other, at all times of the day. One week after mega catch was installed with the co2, we see maybe one mozzie now and again, but we can now stop living behind the insect screens. At home within a week of setting it up at home with the co2 bottle we had hundreds of mosquitoes and midges in the catch water.
The very next weekend we sat outside after sunset for several hours, without a single mosquito or midgee to be seen or to bite us, we have since been able to enjoy our outside areas morning noon and night, without the threat of bites, this has given us our outside areas back.

'Thank you for your recent phone call concerning a lack of performance from my Ultra trap. I took your advice and removed the Octenol strip. The difference in performance was immediate and astounding! Now instead of the mosquitoes swarming the outside of the trap but staying out, the reverse is happening. The most recent check had the bag full of mosquitoes (and moths, Junebugs, etc.) I guess the Canadian Mosquitoes just don't like the smell of the strip.
One question: When new varieties of mosquitoes start appearing (particularly those that switch from birds to humans in late July), should I put the strip back in? Those particular Mosquitoes are the nasty ones that carry the West Nile Virus.'

'John, we tell everyone to fine tune the set up of the trap to their particular mosquito species and as you say this can change over time. Most backyards will have up to a hundred mosquito species over the course of a year and they all respond slightly differently to the traps stimuli. The best analogy is fishing - you can't expect to catch all types of fish using the same bait - MegaCatch.'

"It's working fine. There has been a marked reduction in the mosquito population in our backyard. We can sit outside without constant attack. I believe the secret is to move it around on a regular basis to cater for shifting winds and populations that are protected by the buildings etc. The area we live in is some 300 to 400m from a tide effected salt marsh so there is a constant supply of reinforcements that populate all areas around the house, so if they are outside of the CO2 stream or the physical/visual attractants they are not lured to the trap. In our case two traps would be ideal one on either side of the house would provide a complete envelope of protection."

We live in Lafayette, La, which has lots of mosquitoes in normal conditions, but after Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, there has been a CRAZY amount of mosquitoes. "I received the timer, strips, and light bulbs today and changed the timer out in about 20 minutes. I went ahead and changed out the bulb and saved the old one as a spare. The timer appears to be working properly. I am not sure what happened to old timer, the mega catch is pretty sheltered as it sits under the eve of the roof and away from direct rain. In any case we still seem to be pretty free of mosquitoes and other biting insects. We have about a 1/3 acre back yard and with lots of plants. For the first month or so, when I emptied the catch container and refilled, I would say each time, I had hundreds of dead mosquitoes. Slowly the number of mosquitoes caught decreased as we must have broken the breeding cycle and of course noticed no mosquitoes on our patio or around the pool. I think your product does a wonderful job.

"I just want to let you know how amazed I am at the difference between the performance of your Mega-Catch and the American Biophysics Mosquito Magnet. The Mega-Catch is two to three times more efficient at catching mosquitoes than the Mosquito Magnet and cost only about a third as much.
However, the real difference is in the support I received. When I asked American Biophysics for replacement parts and technical help to repair my Mosquito magnets, I was told there was no help, or replacement parts available. My only option was to send the units back to the factory for repair, or to upgrade to the next better model. "Two years ago we moved to Florida and bought a house on a “Preserve.” Although we love most of the animals that live there, it turns out to be a swamp all summer and breeds tons of mosquitoes. "My wife and I live in Minnesota where mosquitoes are a constant problem. We love to spend our leisure time working in our large garden and picking raspberries from our large raspberry patch. We also have several dogs and enjoy being with them outside in the summer months. After a full day of this kind of activity, we enjoy using our hot tub that is also outside.

We have had a Mosquito Magnet Defender for about a year, but it never seemed to do much, and we've continued to have a mosquito problem. We have 15 acres in the middle of the woods in Napies, Florida. Before we got these machines, the mosquito population was very high. We wore spray most all spring and summer. Our property is home for a lot of children and we had to do something to keep our kids from being ate up. Especially with West Nile and other disease's carried by mosquito's. The major benefits gained from the Mega-Catch were the savings in time and travel through the use of the programmable timer/clock. The use of gas rather than dry ice is more convenient and also a saving in cost and travel. The timer also performs as a conservation unit for battery power and gas. The unit performed well and to expectations over more than 3 months.
The robustness of the unit deserves comment. The sites selected for
trapping were mainly coastal with onshore winds and often wet conditions.
Sheep and cattle were usually in the same area and the unit showed no signs
of damage from them. There were no breakages or breakdowns during surveillance
– even in a flood situation that washed the battery connection away
the only adjustment was to reconnect the crocodile clip to the battery.
Another unit operated without fault after falling from a traveling vehicle.
