August 20th is World Mosquito Day. On that day in 1897 Dr Ronald Ross made the historic discovery that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. August 20th has since become a public awareness day and reminder about the continuing threat of malaria and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
