Mega-Catch™ Mosquito Traps effective against biting midges

Co2 trapping is one of the most effective methods of dealing to these little bloodsuckers, often referred to as the vampires of the insect world. Research has shown that biting midges, like many species of mosquito, are attracted to C02.  However it’s not the only cue they follow, they’re also attracted to light, especially UV light.  The Ultra trap by Mega-Catch™ appears to be one of the safest, most effective traps on the market, and one that combines both C02 with UV light capability.   Mega-Catch™ traps have been scientifically tested and proven to kill mosquitoes, biting midges (no-see-ums) black flies and sand flies, and more importantly, do so without the use of insecticides, fogs or sprays.  USDA entomologist, Dr Daniel Kline conducted comparison tests using Mega-Catch™ Ultra traps in the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge, on the west coast of Florida, and recorded the capture of 10,000 biting midges just in one day.  Biting midges are prolific at this site and cause extreme annoyance to both nearby residents and tourists.

Remember World Mosquito Day with Mega-Catch™

Day-of-Mosquito-ver-2.0-Wha[1]

August 20 – observed annually as ‘World Mosquito Day’ – marks the anniversary of one of the most important scientific discoveries in the battle against malaria.  On 20 August, 1897, Dr Ronald Ross, a British doctor working in India, established the transmission of malaria by mosquitoes.  Declaring himself that this date be remembered as World Mosquito Day, Dr Ross was later honored with a Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1902 for the discovery. The day also serves as a reminder of the misery these little bloodsuckers cause world-wide. (more…)

Mosquitoes Captured by Mega-Catch™ Ultra

Jim Thompson who only bought his Mega-Catch™ Ultra trap at Canadian Tire in June this year, is the winner of our ‘Catch More Mosquitoes’ competition promoting the AMCA’s  2009 ‘National Mosquito Control Awareness Week’.

“Been using the Mega-Catch Ultra with both the attractant and CO2 options for almost 1 week and the catch has been unbelievable.” says Jim  “As you can see in the attached photo, the wet capture bowl was overwhelmed.  The water/juice mix was full and the bowl was actually overflowing with mosquitoes being drawn into the Ultra and blown down into the bowl and out the bottom of the machine because the bowl was full”.

A picture tells a thousand words!

I think this Mega-Catch Ultra is amazing and it could possibly make a dent in the bugs, but I could really use a second machine I think and the prize would be great.”

The photo is definitely a ‘winner’.

Congratulations Jim, your prize is on its way -  and may you catch many more mosquitoes with it.
